Life has a way of making you grateful for the little things

Life has a way of making you grateful for the little things. Dandelion chains. The sun on your back as your children make happy sounds at the park. The birds singing their relentless, frantic spring mating songs. This is wealth.

I was reading an America's Best Short Stories volume from 1954 (the year my mom was born) that I got at a library sale. This line from Elizabeth Enright's story Apple Seed and Apple Thorn about a mother and son at the park resonated with me: “At the swings she stood in front of him to push so that she could watch his face as it flew away and then came blooming toward her, alert and joyful […] She felt contented, deeply satisfied, without a worry. The past and the future lay asleep like beasts in cages…”

Today, my nearly 5 month old took a 3 hour nap, but my 3 year old stuck a credit card in his butt crack and peed in the litter box. Life has a way of evening itself out.

Just picked this bouquet for my daughter's Pre-K graduation. She gave me clovers for mother's day. Prettiest flowers ever.

Yes to dandelions, bunmi! I finished your book last night. I read until 1am (because, coffee) and i loved it. I laughed and cried and also used it to swat away a bug. I also added a review on amazon and reccommended it to my mommy listserv (mommy mafia). This book belongs to every baby shower gift basket. Along with a nespresso machine and stretchy yoga pants. Thank you for writing it!

My 4 year old picks me "flowers" all the time. I stopped correcting her that dandelions were weeds because she kept persisting they were flowers. She has a way of showing me how beautiful everything is.

One of the rare times my son didn't stop me from taking his photo or turn his head away.... They might be considered weeds but oh so fun to play with (we won't address the fact that he tried to put one in his mouth two seconds later which caused mommy to lose her shit a little) but this little moment was bliss.

The flower is edible, too. Try the young greens; less bitter.

Yes, the flowers, leaves, and roots are edible and medicinal. It's good to learn to tell it apart from Hairy Cat's Ear (an actual plant). http://identifythatplant.com/dandelion-and-cats-ear/

For eating, also important that it's away from roads and not in a place where herbicides/pesticides are sprayed. Also good to consider where dogs might go to the bathroom and where people might take a leak.
